They say the best way to establish healthy sleep habits for babies and toddlers is through routine. We are not routine people at my house. After months of struggling with weekend naps, I have decided there is nothing wrong with using the car as a sleep crutch.
On Saturdays and Sundays, after lunch and a fresh diaper, I strap Xander into the car, pop in his favorite CD, and before we are even to the closest major intersection he is asleep.
I am then tasked with keeping busy in the cat for 2 hours. I clean the car, listen to hypnobabies, catch up on facebook and twitter, read an ebook, go to the bank, grab a starbucks... it's actually turned into my weekend me time, and gives Daddy time for his projects too!
